The trade unions unitedly request the president to immediately repeal the Online Safety Act, which suppresses freedom of the media and threatens democratic values and discourse.
It is said that the Online Safety Act passed by the Parliament last month will suppress the freedom of expression of citizens.
They point out that this law poses a serious threat to trade union movements, journalists, comedians, cartoonists, creators who produce digital content, and all citizens who express dissenting opinions, who advocate for people's rights, including professional rights.
They request the President to immediately repeal the Online Safety Act, which has become a law in Sri Lanka that is a bridge to the suppression of freedom and a threat to democratic values and democratic discourse.
