The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has announced a special decision regarding fuel issuance to provide relief to the public during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year festive season.
Temporary Relief on QR Code
According to an official statement, the National Fuel Pass (QR code) system will be temporarily suspended for petrol starting from today (April 11) until April 18. During this period, motorists are not required to present their QR code at filling stations to obtain petrol.
Facilitating Festival Travel
Speaking at a media briefing, CPC Chairman D.J. Rajakaruna stated that this temporary measure was taken to ensure smooth travel for the public during the New Year holidays.
Even-Odd" System Remains in Effect
While the QR requirement is lifted, the Chairman emphasized that the "Even-Odd" number plate system will continue to be enforced to manage queues at fuel stations.
Motorists must visit filling stations only on their designated days based on the last digit of their vehicle's registration number.
Important Notice
This relaxation is only valid until April 18, 2026. From April 19 onwards, the QR-based fuel distribution system will be fully reinstated.
