The Court of Appeal has today (25) ordered the Maligakanda Magistrate's Court to release Dr. Kapila Wickramanayake, the former director of the Medical Supply Division, who was remanded in custody on suspicion of buying substandard antibody vaccines, on suitable conditions.
After considering a writ petition submitted by Dr. Kapila Wickramanayake, this order was given by the Court of Appeal Judge Shashi Mahendran with the concurrence of the President of the Court of Appeal, Judge Nishanka Bandula Karunaratne.
Pronouncing the judgment, the judge stated that the basic objections raised by the respondent party that this petition cannot be maintained is rejected.
