A notice has been issued to the Election Commission, Minister of Justice Wijayadasa Rajapaksa and others, informing them to present their facts before the court regarding the petition filed requesting to issue a set of guidelines to facilitate the voting of the remand prisoners in elections including the presidential election.
The Supreme Court has issued this order to the lawyer of the petitioner when a petition filed by Sudesh Nandimal de Silva was called to issue an order granting voting rights to the remand prisoners.
Accordingly, it has been further ordered to take steps to send notices to the Chairman of the Election Commission, Justice Minister Wijayadasa Rappaksha, the Commissioner General of Prisons and others, who are named as respondents in the relevant petition, asking them to state their facts in this regard on August 8.
