A strike to protest the new bus service at Sri Lanka's airport

The luxury bus association that runs from the airport to Colombo Fort has started a strike in protest against the new luxury bus service that started operating from Katunayake Airport to Fort Main Railway Station and Mokumbura Multimodal Transport Centre.

Mr. Indika Gunasekara, President of the Bus Association, stated that in a period when a presidential election has been announced, it is not possible to make appointments for new jobs, and the same recommendations are valid for new buses.

He points out that the buses of his association used to start their journeys from Katunayake Airport, and then due to security reasons and other political pressures, they had to start their journeys from Avariwatta town.

He mentions that the operation of the buses has been initiated by the Chairman of the Western Provincial Transport Authority through the Ministry of Transport and Highways and the National Transport Commission.
