Plans to conduct island-wide elephant population survey Sri Lanka

The Department of Wildlife Conservation says that it is planned to conduct an island-wide elephant population survey.


 Accordingly, it is stated that the survey will be conducted at 3,130 survey centers for three days starting from the 17th.


 The data collection of the survey is going to be done by the staff of the Department of Wildlife Conservation and for that, it is expected to gather personnel from other government agencies, including security forces, said the director general of the department M.  G.  C.  Suriyabandara mentioned.


 It is further stated that on the basis of the obtained data, measures are to be taken to predict the future existence of the elephant population in this country, to prepare strategic plans for curbing human-elephant conflicts
