The police say that a special committee has been appointed for the security of candidates and former presidents during the presidential election.
Acting Police Media Spokesman DIG Ruwan Gunasekara stated that the chairmanship of the relevant committee will be held by the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Security.
He mentioned that the security provided to each candidate will be decided on the basis of intelligence information and an assessment will be made on the threats to each candidate.
He further mentioned that the necessary security for those meetings will be provided after giving timely notice regarding the meetings in which each candidate will participate.
