Don't fall for this police letter , you with you news uptate

The Criminal Investigation Department has started an investigation into a letter circulating on the internet claiming to have been issued by the Inspector General of Police.

That is due to the suspicion that the relevant article has the potential to commit massive data theft.

A fake letter written in English on a yellow background with a blue police hand badge with dharmachakra, a rubber seal and police insignia was circulated on social media and it was made to appear to have been issued by Inspector General of Police Deshbandu Thenkone on 01 July 2024.

The Criminal Investigation Department started an investigation into the fake letter in question and who posted the letter on the Internet.

Accordingly, it was discovered that the relevant letter had already been forwarded to many of the leading police stations in Sri Lanka as well as their chief officers by email.

The specialty of this is that it must be downloaded for printing.

But it is not possible to print it either.

Once it's downloaded, the malware it contains can reportedly infiltrate virus protection systems and steal data from affected computers.

 Then the computer slows down.

The police said that some person or group has forwarded this letter with the intention of stealing data or inconveniencing certain parties.

Investigators are asking the public not to open any photo, link or login page or PDF page from someone they don't know.

In a similar way, hackers have looted millions of dollars from the Central Bank of Bangladesh in 2016.

What has happened in Bangladesh is that an application containing bio data was received at the email address of the country's central bank, and about one and a half years after it was downloaded, hackers gradually stole its data and carried out the robbery.

Because of that, the security forces of this country are paying close attention to this article.
