The Department of Meteorology says that due to the turbulent nature of the lower atmosphere near Sri Lanka, the current rain situation in the south-western parts of the island is expected to continue today (17).
Accordingly, the department says that there may be rain or thundershowers from time to time in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, Matara and Mannar districts today.
In Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in some areas of Galle and Matara districts, mm. Heavy rains of more than 100 may occur, and in the rest of the island there may be scattered showers or thunderstorms in the evening or at night.
The Department of Meteorology is requesting the people to take necessary measures to reduce the dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thunderstorms.
